We Have Partnered with PlanetAid.org

Are you looking for a place to donate old clothing or shoes in the Los Angeles Area?

If so, we have an awesome solution for you!

A few weeks ago, we announced a new partnership with PlanetAid.org. You will be able to drop off clothing in the Big Yellow Bin, sitting on our West Corner Parking lot; on the corner of 114th and Central Ave.  We are leaving the gate unlocked during the day, during the week for anyone who just wants to drop by, and drop off any Clothes, or Shoes that you no longer want. Often people call our church asking if they can drop off clothing and until now we’ve had to turn them away.

So we are excited about this partnership – Check out a Flyer we’ve been running in our weekly publication ‘The Tab’ – which details more information about PlanetAid; and their mission.

The Tabernacle Observes 69th Church Anniversary

The Tabernacle Observes 69th Church Anniversary

The Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church is in the midst of a month-long Observance of its’ 69th Church Anniversary.

Organized in 1944 by the late Reverend F.D. Ferrell and 38 visionary “Christ like Charter Members”, who were inspired to organize a church and call a Pastor. The seeds of faith sown now m ore than 69 years ago have blossomed and Tabernacle stands as a strong “Religious Tower” within the Watts Community, our city state and nation.

Thus on this significant milestone, the current members are in the spirit of thanksgiving and celebration, thanking God for the multitude of loving kindness to us as a body of believers in Christ across these 69 years.

Longtime members Deacon Bruce and Sister Robin Hall-Turner are serving as Co-Chairs for this Church Anniversary.

The most timely theme is:

“THE CHURCH REBOOTING TO SERVE THIS PRESENT AGE”

Luke 5: 4 & John 17: 9-19

The sub-theme 4 each Sunday “Remembering our Roots — Moving Forward”.

Dr. R.M. Leffall the Senior Pastor kicked off the Observance on the first Sunday with a special message entitled “On The Same Page”, and on that afternoon a special Vesper Service was held at with one of the son’s of Tabernacle Rev. Anthony Spottsville, Pastor of New Beginning Baptist Church, guest minister. The Ordinance of The Lord’s Supper was administered at the Service.

On the past Sunday, the Reverend Gregory Perkins-Bowen preached a powerful and most inspirational message entitled “Pray For The Preacher”. This Sunday, October 20th at 3:30 p.m. there will be an All Choir Musical Service.

The Culminating Service will be held on the 4th Sunday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. will be our Evening Service. The Rev. Shane B. Scott, Lead Pastor at the historical Macedonia Baptist Church will be the guest Minister. He will be accompanied by the Choir, Officers, Ushers and members, said a spokes person … “Pastor Scott is one of the nations most gifted and dynamic proclaimers of God’s Word.”

A Special invitation is extended to former members as well as friends to attend any or all of the 69th Church Anniversary Services. The Church is located at 11328 South Central Ave, in Los Angeles. For additional info you may call the church at 323-569-4162 or view our website mytabnow.org

Information on LA COUNTY SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM Submitted by Bro. Bruce Turner

The following was submitted by Brother Bruce Turner,
REGARDING :  LA COUNTY SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

Parents and students:

The County of LA, a few hours ago,  just published an announcement for their Summer Youth Employment Program.  I have sent you the attached information regarding the program.  It is highly suggested that you read the information and respond.  To me, it was quite confusing on how to apply so the specific directions that I received after calling 3 times  are as follows:

Eligibility:

Students are eligible  ONLY if they are between 14 and 21 years, AND , if they are receiving public assistance (CAL WORKS), OR if they are Foster youth.  Send an EMAIL stating that they are ________ years of age, and that they are receiving public assistance , or they are FOSTER YOUTH,  and they would like apply for the Summer Youth Employment Program….Include in the email your name, child’s name,  date, address, phone number, cell phone number, and grade.

Send the email to:
SummerYouthJobs@CSS.lacounty.gov
I would send this email in as soon as possible.  If your child/children is chosen, they will then contact you further, but this is the process.
There is NO paper application initially.  Again, this is for the COUNTY OF LA…
If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Hernandez at Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas office, at 213-974-2222.  She is in charge of it..
Please share and distribute this information to the youth who are potentially eligible for this program..
THANK YOU and God bless!!
Love,
Arlene T. Andrews
Scholarship Coordinator, Greater New Unity Baptist Church
