ReCap of our Annual Women’s Day Service for 2013

Annual Women’s Day

Written By First Lady Dr. Maye H. Leffall

The “TAB” observed its Annual Women’s Day Service on Sunday, May 19, 2013.  A most timely theme was:  “Women of Faith Anchored in the LORD, and Positioned for a Changing World (Jude 24-25).”  We were truly blessed by an inspiring, dynamic message by Dr. Sandy Scranton-Lee, Professor at El Camino Compton Center and Director/Administrator of the Heavenly Vision Educational Center.

The Women’s Day Chorus provided a Spirit-filled Service in Song under the capable, zestful direction of the Rev. Gregory Perkins-Bowen, Minister of Music; Bro. Nathan Christopher, Pianist/Accompanist; Brother Lawrence Crenshaw, Percussionist; and Sister Constance Hayes, Chorus Director.

The “2013 Woman of the Year,” Sis. Velma Walker, was presented to the Congregation with warm reflections, by Sis. Jackolyn King, former Woman of the Year (2011).  The Committee’s recommendations submitted for the 2013 Honoree were ably coordinated by Sis. Alberta Williams.

There was also a “Special Salute” honoring Dr. Gwendolyn Smith-Taylor, who served for many years in the Music Ministry of the “TAB,” particularly in the sharing of her gifts with the Women’s Day Chorus.  Sis. Natalie J. Fisher beautifully expressed our heartfelt sentiments in her presentation of Honoree, Dr. Smith-Taylor.

The Committee consisted of Co-Chairs, Sis. Constance Stanley and Sis. Maye Helen Leffall,

and a fine cadre of Captains and Co-Captains who gave active and dedicated service in the planning; and made excellent financial reports.  We thank God for EVERY PARTICIPANT; for the presence of EVERYONE; and for ALL who CONTRIBUTED to a great day of WORSHIP, PRAISE, and CELEBRATION.

JOY AND BLESSINGS!

Quotes chosen by First Lady Dr. Maye Helen Leffall

Attitude Changes Everything

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude is more important than facts, than the past, education, money, circumstances, failures, successes, than what other people think or say or do.  Attitude is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.  It will make or break a company, a church, a school, a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past or the fact that people will act in a certain way.  The only thing we can do is to be in charge of our attitudes.   Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it; and so it is with you … we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Charles Swindoll

“Your attitude and mine are always our choice.  No matter how bad things are, no one can force you to have a bad attitude, if you don’t want to, and vice versa.  That’s really good news because it says that our attitudes don’t have to be the victims of our circumstances or of other people.  We choose our responses.”

Tabernacle of Faith Slates Annual Women’s Day Service

The Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church located in the very heart of the Watts Community will observe it’s Annual Women’s Day Service on Sunday, May 19th, with one great Service at 11:00 a.m.  The most timely theme for this year is: Women of Faith Anchored In The Lord, and Positioned For  a Changing World.  Dr. Maye Helen Lefall along with Mrs. Constance Stanley serve as Co-Chairs, along with a cadre of Captains and Co-Captains.  The Rev. Gregory Perkins-Bowens will direct the Women’s Day Chorus, assisted by Mr. Nathan Christopher.

The Speaker for this Service will be Dr. Sandy Scranton-Lee a veteran educator. She presently serves as a professor at El Camino Compton Center; as a Director/Administrator at the Heavenly Vision Educational Center.  Said a spokesperson, she is a most gifted and dynamic speaker.

Two special highlights of the observation will be the much coveted naming of the “Woman Of The Year For 2013”.  In addition there will be a special salute honoring Dr. Gwen Smith-Taylor, who served for many years in the music Ministry of the “TAB”.  Dr. Taylor is a legend in Church Ministry Music, and has shared her talents with various Churches within the Los Angeles Church Community.

The Women’s Day Committee along with Dr. R.M. Leffall III, Senior Pastor, invites the community at-large to attend this Service.  The Church is located at 11328 South Central Ave., Los Angeles CA 90059.  For further information you may contact the church at 323-569-4162 or view the website at www.mytabnow.org
